Each of The Sachem Farmhouse guest rooms is elegantly decorated with antique furnishings and has air conditioning, wireless internet, cable T.V. / DVD player (with limited DVD library), ihome alarm clock/radio for ipods, bathrobes, hair dryer, iron and ironing board. In our baths we provide a variety of natural soaps, shampoos, and lotions. Cell phone service is unreliable in our area therefore we provide a house phone for our guests. Waterfront property with a beach is available for the use of our guests. Our room rates include a delicious farmhouse breakfast and afternoon refreshments.

Family History:

Louise Hopkins, daughter of Alice and William Hopkins was born at The Sachem. Louise worked along side her brother William and their parents to run the hotel and farm. She married Perry Averill, a postman from Washington. The Averill family still live at their family homestead, The Averill Farm.

Family History:

William H. Hopkins, son of Alice and William was born at The Sachem. William married Ruth Avangeline Smith from Washington, together they raised two sons, William L. and Stephen. Ruth cared for the many summer guests at The Sachem and William managed the family farm.

Family History:

Louisa and George bought our home from the family of E.R. Beeman upon Mr.Beeman’s death in 1895. Lake Waramaug was a thriving spot for summer visitors, Louisa and George saw an opportunity and purchased the home for their son William and his wife Alice to run as a summer guest house in conjunction with the family farm.

Family History:

Alice and William were the first Hopkins to welcome summer guests and named our house The Sachem, perhaps in memory of Chief Waramaug. Alice and William’s two children, Louise and William were raised at The Sachem and grew up working on the farm and entertaining summer guests along side their parents.
